Police file frustrated murder charges against Cebu road rage suspect
CEBU CITY–Police on Tuesday filed criminal charges for frustrated murder before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office against a son of a Cebu businessman who was tagged in the case of road rage in Cebu City.
Supt. Ryan Devaras, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO)-Investigation and Detection Management Bureau (IDMB) chief, said they filed the frustrated murder case instead of frustrated homicide against David Lim Jr. upon the request of the road rage victim.
Lim was tagged as the suspect in the shooting of a nurse, Ephraim Nunal, over a traffic altercation at 3 a.m. Sunday on F. Sotto Drive, Cebu City.
Lim surrendered to Chief Supt. Noli Talino, Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 director, a 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Nuñal, who suffered gunshot wounds on his left thigh and right ankle, is on stable condition at a hospital in Cebu City.
Lim was taken to the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office under heavy guard with troops from the Philippine National Police Special Action Force at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The case against him was assigned to Assistance Cebu City Prosecutor Maria Theresa Casino.
Lim’s lawyer Orlando Salatandre Jr., said his client would not sign a waiver of detention so he could post bail and answer the case against him in court.
The inquest proceeding is expected to be finished on Wednesday.
Lim was taken at past 5 p.m. Tuesday to the CCPO holding cell in Camp Sotero Cabahug on Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City, where he will be detained until the inquest proceeding is completed and he can post bail for his temporary liberty.
