MANILA—House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on Friday tagged Vice President Leni Robredo for allegedly being involved in the filing of the impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte.

In a TV interview, Alvarez accused Robredo for having a hand in the first impeach move against the President.

“Definitely yes. Sino pa ang magbe-benefit diyan?” Alvarez said when asked to clarify Robredo’s possible involvement in the plot against Duterte.

Alvarez explained that the filing of the impeachment complaint came on the heels of a video message Robredo sent to the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs where she criticized the conduct of the administration’s drug war.

“Maliwanag na maliwanag po. Nakita naman natin na kahit sa United Nations ay nagpadala pa siya ng tape, na sinasabi niya na yung mga reklamo dito sa Pilipinas daw,” Alvarez said.

Alvarez also said Robredo is likely “worried” about the results of the recount of the ballots cast for Vice President in the last elections, which might reveal she is not the real winner.

Robredo is facing an election protest lodged by her rival, former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, which recently decided to proceed with the hearing of the case.

“Malamang natatakot siya na kapag binilang yung resulta noong eleksyon ay talagang hindi aabot dahil alam naman niya na hindi totoong talagang nanalo siya,” Alvarez said.

On Thursday, Magdalo Partylist Rep. Gary Alejano filed an impeachment complaint against Duterte before the Office of Secretary General at the House of Representatives, the first ouster move since Duterte’s assumption to office as President.

Alejano cited five grounds for Duterte’s impeachment including violation of constitution, bribery, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and other high crimes.
