PNP now on ‘active defense mode’ upon resumption of peace talks
MANILA—The Philippine National Police (PNP) is now on “active defense mode” after the resumption of the peace talks between the government and the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels.
According to PNP Public Information Office (PIO) chief and spokesman Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos, it means that, although both sides have returned to the negotiating table, the PNP remains alert to protect the urban centers, community, vital infrastructure, public property and the civilian population against any possible threats from the NPA.
Carlos said that the PNP would continue to implement the “judicial process” and the order of the court against the NPA rebels.
He added that even though the resumption of peace talks is a welcome development to the PNP, the national police would not allow the safety of the public and the nation’s internal security be compromised.
