Aguirre orders probe on killing of barrio doctor in Lanao del Norte

MANILA—Justice Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II on Monday ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct a probe on the killing of a barrio doctor in Lanao del Norte last March 1.

”The National Bureau of Investigation through Director Dant Gierran, is hereby directed and granted authority to conduct investigation and case build-up over the death of Dr. Dreyfuss “Toto” Perlas who was shot dead in Lanao Del Norte,” Aguirre said in issued Department Order no. 141 dated March 4.

Last Wednesday evening, Perlas died after he was shot at the back.

Perlas, the municipal health officer of Sapad town, Lanao del Norte and a native of Batan, Aklan, was on his way on board his motorcycle to his rented house in Kapatagan town when the incident happened along the national highway in Purok 4, Maranding, Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte.

The PNP recovered from the crime scene an empty shell of a caliber .45 and Perlas’ blue motorcycle with plate number KA 98877.
