DPWH installs temporary bridge replacing quake-hit Anao-aon Bridge in Surigao
MANILA—A temporary timber bridge is being installed to replace the Anao-aon Bridge that collapsed after a 6.7 magnitude earthquake that hit the province of Surigao del Norte on Friday, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.
According to department’s latest Executive Summary report released on Monday, the Anao-aon Bridge under the Provincial Road of Surigao del Norte has been closed to traffic and no alternate routes identified.
DPWH personnel were deployed on site for augmentation.
It added that new construction of bridge is recommended with an estimated amount of PHP115 million.
Meanwhile, the report revealed that an initial cost of damage to 10 roads and bridges in the CARAGA Region is at PHP103.45 million
Five road sections with an estimated damage of PHP14.25 million are: Daang Maharlika Road (Surigao-Ipil-Lipata Section and Surigao-Agusan Section), Surigao Wharf Road Surigao-Davao Coastal Road, Magpayang-Mainit Wharf Road and Surigao-San Juan Coastal Road.
The five national bridges with damage amounting to PHP89.20 million are: Malico BridgeDaang Maharlika Road (Lipata-Surigao Section), Kinabutan I Bridge Daang Maharlika Road (Lipata-Surigao Section), Kinabutan II Bridge Daang Maharlika Road (Lipata-Surigao Section), Friendship Bridge Surigao-San Juan Coastal Road and Banahaw Bridge Surigao-San Juan Coastal Road.
It added that all the affected national roads and bridges are still passable.
DPWH District Engineering Offices installed warning signs and deployed personnel and equipment to conduct clearing operations and placement of filling materials on bridge approaches.
