Hip-hop superstar Drake wants to set the record straight on remarks he made to a woman wearing a scarf, prompting a furor on social media.

Drake posted a message on his Instagram account Friday saying he wasn’t showing disrespect to Muslims when he joked with a fan about taking off her winter scarf at his London concert Thursday night.

Some gossip websites and social media users suggested the musician was trying to get the woman to remove her hijab and interpreted it as an insult to Muslims.

The uproar was sparked after a clip of the arena concert was posted online by a fan in which both Drake and the woman in the audience are obscured from the camera’s view.

Drake’s Instagram post called it a “fake media story” and added that any suggestion that he disrespected Muslims is “devastating” to him.

The Toronto rapper said his comment about taking off the scarf was nothing more than friendly banter, adding he is well aware of what a hijab is and would never demean anybody wearing one.

Drake also noted in the post that he makes a point to end his performances on tones of unity and love and that he is proud that his closest friends and fans come from all different religions and races.
