Miss Universe 2016 candidates make brief stopover at Navy HQ
MANILA—Officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees detailed at Philippine Navy (PN) headquarters in Naval Station Jose Andrada, Roxas Boulevard, Manila got a glimpse of the beautiful women vying for the Miss Universe 2016 crown during a brief stopover at the base Thursday morning.
This took place prior to the candidates’ boarding the yacht, M/Y Happy Life, which was docked at the facility’s Commodore Divino Pier, said PN spokesperson Capt. Lued Lincuna.
PN flag-officer-in-command Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph Mercado headed the welcoming party who accorded these lovely women military honors.
Sailors also lined up snappily near the edges of the pier, demonstrating the traditional “manning the rail”, a method of saluting or rendering honors, Lincuna added.
In order to ensure the safety and security of every individual participating in Miss Universe 2016, the PN utilized its elite unit, the Naval Special Operations Group (NAVSOG), to escort and provide security to the contestants while the M/Y Happy Life cruises towards an island resort in Batangas.
