Traslacion 2017: Red Cross attends to 1,303 devotees, 8 taken to hospitals

MANILA –The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) said it has attended to a total of 1,303 Black Nazarene devotees as of 7 p.m. Monday at the PRC first aid stations set up along the route of the procession.

The PRC reported that majority of the cases were considered as minor, while a total of seven cases were classified as major cases.

The five cases include a pregnant woman who was rushed to the hospital by an ambulance after she felt dizzy while the rest were due to weakness of their bodies to withstand the entire Traslacion that passed different routes.

It also said that 847 devotees sought assistance after suffering a rise in blood pressure, while 420 suffered from toothache, dizziness, stiff neck and allergies, as well as wounds, bruises and abrasions sustained from falling, being pushed or crushed by the crowd as they attempted to get to the ‘andas,’ or the carriage of the Black Nazarene.

Eight persons were also taken by ambulance to the Philippine General Hospital , Ospital ng Maynila and Orthopedic Center for hypertension, abdominal pains, bone fracture, difficulty of breathing, loss of consciousness, seizure, 2nd degree burn, sprain and bone dislocation.

Aside from giving first aid to injured devotees needing medical assistance and transporting them to the nearest hospital facilities, they also provided welfare assistance

They assisted 21 people in tracing their missing companions and in providing psycho-social support at the same time.
