MANILA—Shocked and dismayed by the unannounced burial of former president Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) Friday noon, anti-Marcos protesters vowed to continue with their opposition to a hero’s burial until the government would be forced to exhume Marcos’ remains at the Hero’s Cemetery.

In a press conference at Trellis Restaurant in Quezon City, Liberal Party senior official said this is the day of mourning because what Marcos’ family did is a “slap to democracy and another to slap to due process” even as he noted that a motion for reconsideration has yet to be resolved by the Supreme Court.

“If it is true that former President [Ferdinand] Marcos was hurriedly buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, this is a direct assault to democratic process,” Pangilinan said.

“What we are after is let renowned artists and true heroes be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani and not a dictator who tortured, raped and steal the nation’s wealth,” he pointed out.

The senator even claimed that east and west Germany agreed not to bury Adolf Hitler, a known dictator, at the heroes cemetery for they knew he has ruined their country.

“What they did is gross injustice. They reopen old wounds, and raped our justice system. Our objective for now is to remove the remains of the dictator from Libingan ng mga Bayani,” he noted.

Atty. Susan Villanueva, a UP professor said that they will ask the High Tribunal’s reaction on what the Marcos family did.

“We want to know how the magistrates will react on disrespectful move by the Marcoses,” she stressed.

She admitted that they will not be surprised if the SC will claim in the end that this is “moot and academic” because the remains had been buried.

Villanueva said they have called on their colleagues and all anti-Marcos burial organizations to join simultaneous rallies to express dismay and condemn what the Marcos family did.
