SC to tackle house arrest bid of ex-Pres. Arroyo next week
MANILA—The Supreme Court (SC) is set to tackle the appeal for house arrest of former president and now Pampanga (2nd District) Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo when it resumes its session on Tuesday next week.
The SC is currently under a month-long “decision-writing” recess following its en banc summer session in Baguio City last April 4-25.
In her motion, Arroyo insisted on her appeal for house arrest, which she filed last December, pending resolution of her petition to bail in the plunder case before the Sandiganbayan.
The former president is under “hospital arrest” at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City while undergoing treatment for her debilitating bone disease.
The plunder case against the Pampanga lawmaker was for her alleged involvement in the alleged misuse of the PHP366-million confidential intelligence funds of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) during her term as President.
