MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBoC) is looking to proclaim the winning 12 senators one week after the conduct of the May 9 polls.
In a press briefing on Monday, Comelec Chairman Juan Andres Bautista said that seven days is a safe projection but they will try to make the proclamation earlier.
“I think one week is a good target but we tried to out perform,” he said at the 2016 Elections National Headquarters at the Philippine International Convention Centre (PICC) in Pasay City.
Bautista noted that the proclamation of the top 12 winners would really depend on the election results they will be getting.
“I cannot really say. It really depends on how quick our Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) transmit the results (election results),” he added.
Bautista said the NBoC is dependent on the transmission of the official, canvassed results from the Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBoC), which is also reliant on the proceedings at the Municipal/City Board of Canvassers (MBoC/CBoC).
He added that they will try to improve their performance than in the 2013 polls.
“Of course, we will try to outperform (the 2013 elections),” he said.
Earlier, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said the NBoC wants to proclaim all the new senators at the same time.
In the 2013 polls, the winning senatorial bets were proclaimed in three batches.
