MANILA—Sen. Grace Poe won’t retain Joseph Emilio Abaya as secretary of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) if she becomes the next president of the country.

Poe has said earlier that the public deserve a better secretary when asked if Abaya should resign due to the inefficiency of the country’s railway system.

Yesterday, when asked if she would keep Secretaries Abaya and Soliman of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Poe said, “Let us just not name them because they still have a few months left under President Aquino.”

“You have seen the outcome of the investigations at the Senate, so you can see those who should not remain in office not just now but also in the coming administration,” Poe was quoted as saying in a Philippine Star report.

“They are not even embarrassed that many of our countrymen suffer because of their inefficiency.

Our countrymen deserve better services,” she added.

Poe said that she would retain the efficient members of President Benigno Aquino III’s cabinet if she becomes the next president.

Sen. Poe is the chairman of the Senate subcommittee on public services that conducted a probe on the contracts signed by the DOTC to rehabilitate Metro Rail Transit 3.
