Toronto stock market edges lower, oil and gold up; U.S. market lower
TORONTO – The Toronto Stock Exchange took a step back despite rising prices for oil and gold.
The S&P/TSX composite index fell 16.42 points to 13,365.96.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrials fell 103.05 points to 17,689.63, while the broader S&P 500 index lost 15.76 points at 2,070.83.
The Nasdaq composite dropped 50.75 points to 5,051.73.
On the commodity markets, the December gold contract gained US$7.30 at US$1,074.10, while the January crude oil contract climbed 80 cents at US$42.55.
The January contract for natural gas lost 6.2 cents at US$2.281.
The Canadian dollar gained 0.30 of a cent at 75.08 cents U.S.
