MANILA – As the new head coach of Barangay Ginebra, Tim Cone aimed to give the Gin Kings their next PBA championship since their title back in 2008.

“We’ll build a team that not only management, but the fans will be proud of. The key is building a proper foundation and building from there,” Cone said in a press conference.

“What we are up to now is how to instill our system to the players… It’s going to take a little bit of time. It always does. We’ll try to be quick but we won’t be in a hurry,” he added.

Known for using the triangle offense, PBA’s ‘winningest’ coach stated that he will improve the team’s defense first.

“If you get the guys to buy in defensively, then we’re going to do something good. It’s always a process to get that buy-in going with the players,” he said.

Leaving the Star Hotshots, Cone will be replaced by Jason Webb.

“The hardest part is leaving behind the players, the memories, and all the adversities we fought over the last four years. That and leaving the fans that have been awesome and moving forward is really difficult,” he said.
