Protesters smoke up in Winnipeg in favour of medical marijuana store
WINNIPEG – Protesters held signs reading “I am not a criminal” outside Winnipeg police headquarters for a demonstration in support of medical marijuana.
A store selling medical pot on Main Street was ordered closed by police last week, just two weeks after it opened.
Owner Glenn Price called Monday’s demonstration a “peaceful smoke-in.
”
He says he only provides the product to people with appropriate medical documentation and says he’s helped hundreds of people since opening on July 1.
However, police say Price isn’t a licensed producer so it’s illegal for him to sell medical marijuana.
Price insists what he’s doing is legitimate, saying he provides a safe place for people to smoke medicine “instead of on the street.
”
Police called the demonstration peaceful and did not take any action against the people who attended.
