NOY AQUINO PNOY

MANILA — President Aquino is working his best to keep the Liberal Party (LP) coalition in tact amid confusions in the selection of the party’s  standard bearer for the 2016 polls.

“The President is trying his best to keep the coalition intact, that’s the reason why the President is talking to coalition members, and probable candidates, for example (Interior Secretary) Mar Roxas, Sen. Grace Poe and (Sen. Francis) Escudero – there is an effort on the part of the party to keep the coalition intact,” Iloilo Rep. Niel Tupas said.

The statement was made amid reports of Aquino conducting talks with LP leaders and other members of the coalition.

Despite reports of holding negotiations with potential candidates including Poe and Escudero, Aquino is yet to announce the candidate that he will be endorsing in the 2016 elections.

Tupas added that as of now, what is clear is that Vice President Jejomar Binay will run as the opposition presidential candidate.

He also said that a three-way contest, should Poe also decide to run for President is possible.

Poe has been the top performer in surveys conducted both by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) and Pulse Asia.
