MANILA — Actress Iza Calzado is still in shock after winning  the Actress of the Year in the recently concluded 46th Guillermo Mendoza Box-Office awards.

“Sobrang surprised talaga ako (I’m really surprised),” she said in an interview.

Calzado said she still could not believe that she will win the award for her performance in the 2014 film, “Starting Over Again.”

“Really kasi I only have five and not even eight scenes in the movie. So I never thought I’d actually win for the movie.

The film was starred by Piolo Pascual and Toni Gonzaga and was directed by Olivia Lamasan.

“I’m grateful to Piolo and Toni, especially their fan-base, and I’m grateful for every person who watched and re-watched the film,” she said.

Calzado is now preparing for the re-staging of “Sabel: Love and Passion,” a theatrical interpretation of Benedicto Cabrera’s artwork titled Sabel.

Though the presentation is now on its second run, Calzado said she is still nervous to be doing the theatrical performance for the second time.

“Of course there’s always kaba (some nervous feeling) and we haven’t fully rehearsed yet,” she said.  “There’s a new venue with a smaller stage, there’s a lot of elements. So in terms of kaba (nervousness) , mayro’n (there is) definitely.”

Also starring in the musical are ICalzado’s co-stars Aicelle Santos, Timothy Pavino, Bo Cerudo, and the Philippine Ballet Theatre.
