Melai defends Angelica from bashers
MANILA — Following the controversial Dubsmash video, which was criticized by some netizens, Melai Cantiveros defended her friend, Angelica Panganiban.
“‘Wag nilang gawing big issue na lang, it’s for fun lang naman e. Wala naman ibig sabihin ‘yon,” Melai said in an interview on Tuesday.
(They should not make a big deal out of it. It’s just for fun. There’s no meaning.)
Angelica’s Bubsmash video, aired on ABS-CBN’s gag show, “Banana Split,” earned the ire of a number of netizens.
The actress lip-synched a famous line from the 1985 film Bituing Walang Ningning which goes “You’re nothing but a second rate, trying hard, copycat!”
Angelica was holding Marian Rivera’s photo during the first part of the video then a photo of Heart Evangelista during the part when she said the word “copycat.”
Melai said she was hurt hearing the negative comments about her friend, but defended her saying the bashers just don’t know Angelica’s real personality.
“Siyempre ‘yong nam-bash di nila talaga kilala [si Angelica]. Hindi naman natin ma-blame, pero kilalanin muna sana nila bago i-bash,” she said.
(The bashers don’t know her so we can’t blame them right away. But they should know her first before they criticize her.)
