ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) has deployed additional forces to reinforce Police Station 9 in its fight against criminality.

Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro, ZCPO director, made this announcement following a grenade attack early Monday at the headquarters of Police Station 9 in Barangay Ayala, 16.5 kilometers west of City Hall.

Casimiro said the reinforcement will come from the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company (ZCPSC).

No one was either killed or injured in the grenade attack that took place around 12:54 a.m. Monday.

Casimiro said the explosion slightly damaged one of the vehicles of the Police Station 9 as well as the old building of the city government located near the headquarters.

He said the MK-2 type of grenade was lobbed by one of two unidentified persons riding tandem on a motorcycle that passed in front of the Police Station 9 headquarters.

He said the suspects sped off towards the west coast of this city.

He believed the incident is aimed to intimidate the Police Station 9 personnel to go slow or stop the anti-illegal drugs campaign in their area of responsibility.

Monday’s grenade attack was the second that took place at the Police Station 9.

The first was last April 3 that injured four persons when an improvised bomb placed in an impounded vehicle exploded.
