Nueva Ecija RTC orders arrest of Veloso’s recruiters

MANILA — A Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Nueva Ecija has ordered the arrest of the two recruiters of Filipina death convict Mary Jane Veloso, namely, Kristina Sergio and Julius Lacanilao.

This was based on a warrant of arrest dated May 14, 2015 and signed by Baloc, Sto Domingo, Nueva Ecija RTC Branch 37 Presiding Judge Nelson Tribiana.

Sergio and Lacanilao are currently detained at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) detention facility.

Likewise, Tribiana ordered the two respondents to appear before his sala the soonest possible time.

The RTC recommended no bail for the temporary liberty of Sergio and Lacanilao, who were earlier charged by the Department of Justice (DOJ) with large scale illegal recruitment, or violation of Section 6 of Republic Act No.

8042, or the “Migrants Workers Act of 1995”.

The NBI is now serving the arrest warrant against Sergio and Lacanilao.
