Solon: Time for Binay to ‘contest’ allegations
MANILA — Following the Ombudsman’s move to formalize the investigation of the Binays, a leading member of the Liberal Party said that it’s about time for the Binays to contest the allegations raised against them.
“The Binays will now have the opportunity to face the music and contest the allegations against them at the Office of the Ombudsman,” Quezon City Representative Kit Belmonte said.
Vice President Jejomar Binay and his son, Makati Mayor Junjun Binay is currently facing plunder charges in connection with the construction of the allegedly overpriced construction of the Makati parking building.
Belmonte expressed on Tuesday his confidence on the investigators assigned to look into the case.
He added that he has faith in the strength of the evidence against the Binays.
Belmonte also said that the filing of criminal complaints against the Binays may start their possible prosecution.
Since the beginning of the issue, the Binays maintained a firm denial of the allegations raised against them adding that those “are the handiwork of losers and political opponents.”
