Tagle calls on Filipinos to pray for slain cops

MANILA — Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle on Friday calls on the Filipino people to pray for the slain members of the of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) and their families.

Tagle said the Catholic Church is one with the Filipino people in mourning for the brutal death of 44 policemen.

“The Archdiocese of Manila shares in the grief and pain of the whole nation at the tragic death of our brothers of the PNP-SAF in Maguindanao,” Tagle said in a statement. “We express our deep solidarity especially to their families and friends and all who belong to the wider family of the Philippine National Police.”

The policemen were killed during an operation to arrest two identified terrorist in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

Tagle also urged the Catholics to pray for those involved in the killing of the policemen.
