MANILA – Actor Jake Cuenca will be recognized by the House of Representatives for his Best Actor award during the recently held 2014 International Film Festival Manhattan (IFFM).

Cuenca was honored for his performance in the indie film “Mulat (Awaken)”. The award was given during a ceremony held at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Consulate General in Manhattan, New York.

Parañaque City Representative Eric Olivarez led the move through House Resolution 1681.

“It is fitting to say that a congressional commendation and congratulations be extended to Cuenca as our humble and sincere acknowledgement for bringing pride and honor to our country,” said Olivarez in a statement posted on House of Representatives’ official site.

“Mulat” is about the story of a woman (played by Loren Burgos) who suffers from psychological problems. Cuenca plays as her lover.

The film was directed by Diane Ventura who also won the Best Director for a Global Feature plum in the IFFM. “Mulat” will be part of the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival’s screening for the New Wave Category which is slated on December 17 to 24 at SM Megamall and Glorietta 4.
