MANILA – A Filipino-American was appointed as the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the highest-rank served by a Fil-Am in the United States government.

Nani Coloretti’s confirmation by the US Senate “attests to her excellent record and more than 20 years of experience in management, budget and finance,” according to National Federation of Filipino-American Associations (NaFFAA) National Chairman JT Mallonga.

Coloretti has served as Deputy Assistant in the Department of Treasury and later as Assistant Secretary for Management and Budget.

She also worked in the San Francisco Mayor’s Office for four years prior to her appointment at the Treasury Department.

Coloretti also worked in the city’s Department of Children, Youth and their Families for six years.

“It gives us a great deal of pride to know that talented and dedicated individuals in our community are recognized and given opportunities to bring their skills and can-do spirit to leadership positions in government,” Mallonga said in a report.

Coloretti will be managing the Department’s operations including the $45-billion annual budget and approximately 8,500 employees.
