716,000 persons evacuated due to ‘Ruby’ — NDRRMC

MANILA — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Sunday reported that around 716,639 persons conducted pre-emptive evacuations because of the effects of Typhoon “Ruby”.

In its 6 a.m. update, NDRRMC said 146,875 families or 716,639 persons have been evacuated in safer areas in Regions 4-A (Calabarzon), 4-B (Mimaropa), 5 (Bicol), 6 (Western Visayas), 7 (Central Visayas), 8 (Eastern Visayas) and Caraga.

NDRRMC added that 2,459 passengers, 89 rolling cargoes, 689 vessels and three motor boats were stranded in various ports of the country while 92 domestic flights have been cancelled.

The agency said that power outages were reported in the provinces of Quezon, Iloilo, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Leyte and Southern Leyte.

Globe and Smart networks are currently down in some parts of Leyte and Eastern Samar.
