Manny Pacquiao disqualified for Vice Presidential race on 2016
MANILA – Pambansang Kamao Manny Pacquiao is not qualified to run for Vice President in 2016, according to an election lawyer on Tuesday.
Recently, there have been speculations about Vice President Jejomar Binay tapping Pacquiao to be his running partner after Binay was seen visiting Pacquiao.
“For sure Binay knows that to be qualified to run for the position of president and vice president, the candidate must at least be 40 years of age on the day of the election as provided under Section 2, Article VII of the 1987 Constitution,” election lawyer Romulo Macalintal.
Pacquaio was born on December 17, 1978. This means that he will be only 37 years old by 2016.
“He is, however, qualified to run for Senator where the age qualification is at least 35 years of age on the day of the election as provided under Section 3, Article VI of the Constitution,” Macalintal explained.
