Dengue cases up 100% in Caraga

BUTUAN CITY — The Department of Health-13 (DOH-13) Friday reported that dengue cases in the region reached over 5,000 from January to September 13 this year or 100 percent increase over the same period last year or 2,547.

The DOH-13 said 26 dengue were recorded during the period under review.

Of the reported dengue cases this year, the DOH-13 said 47 were reported from September 1-13, mostly coming from Surigao del Sur (14 cases) followed by Butuan City (13 cases).

Clustering of cases was detected from August 31 to September 6, 2014 in Bislig City: Brgys. Tabon, Mangagoy and Maharlika; Butuan City: Brgys. Lumbucan, Libertad and Holy Redeemer and Tandag City: Brgy. Mabua.

Of the total dengue cases, the regional health office said that Agusan del Sur has the highest number (1,218); Butuan City (1,179); Surigao del Sur (842); Bislig City (395); Agusan del Norte (392); Tandag City (357); Surigao del Norte (313); Surigao City (300); Bayugan City (248); Cabadbaran City (193) and Dinagat Islands (23).

The ages of the victims ranged from less than one month old to 90 years old. Majority of the cases were males (51 percent) with 39 percent of the cases belonged to 0 to 10 years old group.

The dengue 26 deaths were reported from Butuan City (7): Brgy. Ambago (2), Brgys. Pangabugan, Silongan, Amparo, Baan Riverside and Ampayon (with 1 death each); Agusan del Norte (2) all at Brgy. Poblacion 3, Buenavista town; Cabadbaran City (3): Brgys. Puting Bato, Cabinet, and Brgy. 4; Surigao City (2 ): at Brgys Taft and Washington; Bislig City (5): at Brgy. Poblacion (4 deaths) and Brgy. Tabon (1); Agusan del Sur (2): Brgy. Bahbah, Prosperidad (1) and Brgy. Libuac, Rosario (1); Surigao del Sur (4 deaths): Brgy. Palo-alto, Lingig (1), Brgy. Gamut (1), Brgy. Dughan(1) all in Barobo town, Brgy. La Casa (1), Hinatuan and Brgy. Poblacion (1) in Bayugan City.
