ASG releases abducted midwife in Sulu

MANILA  — Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) brigands released on Tuesday morning a midwife whom they abducted in Barangay Linbug, Panglima Estino town, Sulu last Aug. 28, the military reported.

Capt. Maria Rowena Muyuela, Western Mindanao Command spokesperson, identified the victim as Leilani Bernabe, a midwife at Luuk District Hospital in Sulu.

She said that Bernabe was abducted by the group of ASG sub-leader Arod Wahing and was released in Barangay Danag, Patikul town at around 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Bernabe immediately boarded a passenger jeep headed for her Jolo town address and arrived home at around 8 a.m., Muyuela said.

She added that the midwife’s release was facilitated by Ismun Suhuri, Sulu provincial board member.
