MANILA — Lopez-owned media network ABS-CBN Corp., claimed the nationwide ratings lead while closest rival GMA Network Inc., announced that it has the largest viewership share in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila citing survey from different research companies.

ABS-CBN, quoting data from Kantar Media, said that the station has an audience share of 43 percent compared iwht GMA’s 35 percent on a daily basis. The former also claimed lead in the primetime block, which runs from 6 pm to 12 midnight, at 49 percent. GMA’s primetime share is only at 34 percent o 15 points less.

The primetime block is deemed to be the most important part of the day because most Filipinos watch television during those hours and more advertisers invest during the peak hours, according to ABS-CBN.

GMA, meanwhile, uses Neilsen TV Audience Measurement data. Results show that the said network has a total day household audience of 34 percent or .2 percent below ABS-CBN.

The Kapuso network also noted that it is strong in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila. The said areas account for 77 percent and 60 percent of the entire urban TV household population across the country.

In Urban Luzon, GMA got 37.6 percent total day audience share versus ABS-CBN’s 30.4 percent. In addition, it has a stronghold in Manila at 38.7 percent compared with ABS-CBN’s 28 percent.

In terms of morning block, GMA dominated with 30.7 percent share, a little higher than ABS-CBN’s rating of 30.3 percent. For the afternoon block, GMA captured 36 percent against ABS-CBN’s 30.4 percent.
