MANILA  – Senate President Franklin Drilon denied on Monday a Manila-based newspaper report that he received the biggest slice of Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) for his pet projects in his home province of Iloilo.

”This is a blatant lie, and I will not dignify these characters with a response,” Drilon said in a media interview.

”If you look at it, these are pure speculations and I would like to caution that we should not give credence to these speculations as it does not help our already toxic political environment,” he added.

Drilon emphasized that the PHP 1 billion he allegedly received from DAP was purely speculation.

”This kind of speculation would not help. It’s all speculation. Let’s go on and work so that we can continue on with good governance,” Drilon said.

According to a banner story of Manila Standard Today, Rep. Jonathan dela Cruz of Abakada and Rep. Toby Tiangco of Navotas City tagged Drilon as having cornered some PHP 1 billion from the DAP for his projects.

Drilon recently confirmed that he was one of the few senators who received PHP 100 million DAP funds which he used for the construction of the Iloilo Convention Center.
