Solons speed up approval of economic Chacha
MANILA – Members of the House of Representatives are now planning to fasten the approval of the resolution amending certain economic provisions of the Constitution.
This is in order to avoid the resolution from being involved in any delays as lawmakers as still divided in extending President Aquino’s term by making political revisions of the Constitution.
“We must pass the resolution as soon as possible to protect it from politicking or else we’ll be accused of breaking our word to the people that the House will only work on economic Charter reforms, no political provisions, or (lifting of) term limits, of which the people have always been wary,” a senior lawmaker told the Philippine Star.
Speaker Feliciano Belmonte is among the authors of the RBH1 which aims to ease the economic restrictions found in Articles XII (National Economy and Patrimony), XIV (Education, Science and Technology, Arts, Culture and Sports) and XVI (General Provisions) of the Constitution.
The Senate meanwhile has a similar measure authored by Sen.
Ralph Recto.
Belmonte also said that his team wanted to add, a phrase including, unless otherwise provided by law” to the selected provisions.
