Gov’t urges Filipinos to vote for Vigan as New7Wonders Cities of the World

MANILA — Filipinos are encouraged by the government to help the city of Vigan win the title as one of the New7Wonders Cities.

“The public is enjoined to cast their votes online, or through phone or SMS, to make Vigan one of the seven cities to win the title,” the Official Gazette urged on its website.

There are three ways to vote. One can vote online by logging on to the New7Wonders website at www.

new7wonders.com/en/cities.

On the other hand, one can also vote through SMS, by typing the word VIGAN and send to 29290777; each SMS sent will cost P2.

In order for Vigan to win the title as one of the New7Wonders Cities, it needs to qualify in two elimination rounds of online voting.

The second elimination round runs from July 7 to October 7; and the third elimination round will run from the end of the second round to December 7.

Cities are voted for by the public, and scores are reset after every round.

Vigan, which qualified as one of the 21 finalists in the search for the New7Wonders Cities of the World, is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is famous for the preservation of its Spanish-era architecture.

The campaign is a project of the New7Wonders Foundation, an organization looking to promote the beauty of this world as well as respect for cultural diversity.

It is the same institution that endorsed and promoted the underground river in Puerto Princesa City as one of the New7Wonders of Nature.
