Job hunters from across the PH seeks posts at Customs Bureau

MANILA, Philippines – Over six thousand applicants are gunning for slightly over one thousand job vacancies in the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

The 6,013 people applying for 1,056 vacant positions came from across the archipelago: 4,364 applicants from Luzon, 702 from the Visayas and 947 from Mindanao.

Customs spokesperson Charo Logarta-Lagamon clarified yesterday that “this number included new applicants and existing BOC personnel who are applying for promotion.”
She added that the fact that more than 6,000 people want to work for the bureau was “a good sign.”

Due to the overwhelming response of applicants, The BOC no longer entertained applications submitted after the Aug. 6 deadline, as well as those sent via email.

All applications are now being screened to assess the qualifications of initial requirements; such as education, experience, training and eligibility for the position.

Those who make it through phase one of the screening will receive notification between Aug. 18 to 24 via text message or email from the BOC. The next step after that would be the pre-employment, general ability examination to be conducted by the Civil Service Commission on Aug. 31.

Those who pass the civil service exam must take the aptitude and psychometric tests to measure their personality, interest, aptitude and values

Applicants who make it will take the competency-based tests designed by the BOC to test the fitness of applicants to perform the duties of specific positions.

On the on the hand, applicants with relatives in the BOC up to the 4th degree of consanguinity are disallowed from applying for any position. This ruling is in accordance with Executive Order No. 292, designed to prevent nepotism.
