MRT officials, 2 trains operators likely to face raps—Pasay police

MANILA, Aug. 14 (PNA)—Officials of Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and two train operators will possibly face criminal charges as the Pasay police is now preparing documents and testimonies of several people injured when the MRT train rammed into a barrier after overshooting its tracks on Wednesday afternoon, a police official said on Thursday.

Senior Supt. Florencio Ortilla, chief of Pasay City police, said investigators are now preparing the documents such as the affidavits of the victims as well as the investigation report for the proper filing of charges before the city prosecutor’s office.

Ortilla said MRT officials have yet to appear before Pasay City police while investigators have been provided the names of the two train operators identified as James Duque and Heigin Villa Carlos.

As of press time, police investigators are taking the statements of Duque and Carlos to shed light on what transpired that led to the incident.

He also said that at least six victims, identified as Gina Mendoza, 34; Aileen Santos, 24; May Martinez, 26; a 4-year old boy; Ma. Veronica Veturbo, and Emmanuel Grande Villanueva, 19; had given their statements that will be used for the eventual filing of charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple physical injuries and damage to property.
