More OFWs to be evacuated from Libya
MANILA — As the tension remains growing, the government is planning to evacuate more overseas Filipino workers (OFW) from Libya.
The Philippine embassy seeks to evacuate registered OFWs by sea as they plan to rent a ship in Malta.
“We have now contracted a ship so we will be using that,” he said.
“I think after this if others would still like to leave, the border with Egypt will again be reopened. Egypt did not give any date.” Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesman Charles told reporters yesterday.
The ship, which was rented for about $1.8 million is expected to carry 1,036 OFWs this week.
Jose also added that they have received requests of citizens from other countries who also want to be allowed to take the ship that the embassy had chartered.
Meanhile, 599 Filipinos in Tripoli will be evacuated by land after the reopening of the Tunisian border.
