MANILA – Vice President Jejomar Binay said that he has received information that the Liberal Party (LP) is planning to adopt him in the 2016 Presidential race.

Binay said that its either LP adopts him or that they coalesce with the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

The statement was issued on the sidelines of the opening of a commemorative exhibit marking the fifth death anniversary of former President Corazon Aquino at the Glorietta mall in Makati led by President Aquino.

Though he said there was not any formal discussion about it, Binay said that he was told informally that the administration is planning to adopt him as a candidate.

It was relayed to me. You may call it double hearsay, but in politics everything is probable,” Binay told the Philippine Star.

“In politics, nothing is impossible,” he added.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II, LP’s presumptive standard bearer who was also there during the event, said he was unaware of the said plans.

The secretary told reporters that he had nothing to say about the the vice president’s statement and advised reporters to ask Binay where he heard the story.

Following surveys showing that Roxas is behind Binay, Sen. Grace Poe and even the President’s sister, Kris Aquino, there are rumors that LP is giving Roxas until the end ofthe year to improve on his ratings.

During the 2010 elections, Roxas lost to Binay for the vice presidential race. Binay ran under the opposition umbrella while Roxas ran under LP.
