Papal visit is always good for us –-Villar
MANILA – A Papal visit is always good for the Filipino people, especially those affected by the Bohol earthquake in Central Visayas and deadly typhoon “Yolanda” in Eastern Visayas last year, according to Senator Cynthia Villar.
Pope Francis is scheduled to visit the Philippines from Jan. 15 to 19 next year to meet earthquake and typhoon survivors in the Visayas.
”Of course, if he will go here, the attention of the world will be on us. More help will come in. It’s always good for us,” Villar said, adding that all Filipinos are looking forward for the four-day Papal visit.
”We’re very happy. We’re looking to that and I think Eastern Visayas is preparing for that,” Villar said.
The Pope was one of the world leaders who expressed condolences to the victims of typhoon “Yolanda” (Haiyan) that killed over 6,000 people last November.
The typhoon, one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded in history, had also left over P30 billion worth of damages, specially in Leyte, the hardest hit province.
Pope Francis is reportedly set to stay for six hours in the areas devastated by the cyclone.
