CALGARY—A 16-year-old boy has been charged with second-degree murder after a 45-year-old man was stabbed at a Calgary shopping mall.

Gabriel Okeynan was stabbed on Friday night and died in hospital on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old in custody cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and is also charged with robbery.

Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm said a second youth is being interviewed, but no charges have yet been laid.

Chisholm added there’s no indication the attackers knew Okeynan, who was found by a passerby shortly after the stabbing happened at Marlborough Mall.

A motive is still being investigated, but the victim was robbed of personal items.
