Two dead in collision between Via Rail train and car in Quebec
ST. LIBOIRE, QUEBEC — A collision between a Via Rail passenger train and a car in Quebec has left two people dead.
The incident took place in St-Liboire, south of Montreal.
Via Rail confirmed the death of a passenger in the car.
Quebec provincial police later confirmed the death of a second person, with some reports saying it was a young child.
Via Rail is advising there will be delays on its Montreal-Quebec City route today.
Police say the accident occurred about 7:10 a.m. at a level crossing.
The impact was so violent the car was cut in two.
Saint-Liboire is a small municipality near Saint-Hyacinthe, where Via has a train station.
