MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila residents can definitely feel the summer heat.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the temperature in Metro Manila skyrocketed to 36.2 degrees Celsius, Wednesday (May 7) afternoon.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 3 p.m. at the Science Garden in Quezon City, PAGASA weather observer Mel Duque said in an interview.
This year, the highest temperature recorded in Metro Manila was at 36.4 degrees Celsius last May 1, while the hottest temperature in Metro Manila was recorded on May 14, 1987 at 38.5 degrees Celsius.
Hotter days will be experienced in other parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila due to the easterly winds which will be the dominant weather systems in the country, Duque said.
This summer season, expect the temperature to soar to 37 degrees Celsius in the coming days, the PAGASA weather observer added.
Due to localized thunderstorms due to the easterlies, passing rains, especially in the afternoon or evening can still be expected.
Tips to avoid heat stroke
In its advisory, the state weather bureau advised people to stay indoors if they don’t have important business outdoors.
It added that people must wear comfortable clothing, drink plenty of water and avoid eating food high in protein because it can increase body heat.
The hottest temperature recorded in the country this year was at 39 degrees Celsius at Tuguegarao City, Cagayan last April 25.
It was on May 11, 1969 that the hottest temperature was ever recorded–42.2 degrees Celsius at Tuguegarao.
