The Philippine Volcanoes Rugby Team played against the Hong Kong Rugby Team at the First Round of the 2014 Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) Asian 5 Nations Tournament held on April 26 at the Hong Kong Football Club.

Filipino fans, young and old, cheered the Philippine Volcanoes who gave their very best versus the well-established Hong Kong Rugby Team which won the game.

The Philippine Volcanoes will face Japan at the Second Round of the tournament on May 3 at the Eagle’s Nest Stadium in Laguna, Philippines.  Twenty-four (24) ARFU teams will compete in the Asian 5 Nations tournament with the elite Top 5 competition featuring Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, the Philippines and South Korea. The winner of the Top 5 competition will advance to the Rugby World Cup 2015 in England.

The Hong Kong-based Fate Philippine Women’s Softball Team on the other hand battled the Hong Kong Bruins on April 27 at the Tin Kwong Road Filed to win the finals of the WB-FOS Division at the 57th Festival of Sport Softball Tournament organized by the Hong Kong Softball Association.

These sports matches are an excellent example of the implementation of the Philippines-Hong Kong Memorandum of Understanding on Cultural Cooperation signed on 14 February 2003 which aims to strengthen Philippines-Hong Kong relations through culture, education, sports and people-to-people exchanges.
