PH film industry’s Peque Gallaga passes away at 76
Peque Gallaga, one of the most renowned directors in the industry of Philippine cinema died on Thursday, May 7, at the age of 76.
According to his wife Madie, the filmmaker died from cardiopulmonary arrest at 11:47 a.m. at the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City. He was hospitalized on May 5, as confirmed by the family’s statement “due to complications arising from past health conditions” posted online by fellow director Lore Reyes.
He was best known for the classic masterpiece, “Oro, Plata, Mata” in 1982, which has received numerous awards.
His other works include “Scorpio Nights” in 1985, “Magic Temple” in 1986, and “Tiyanak” in 1988.
Several stars remembered him and joined the mourning by posting some photos and sharing some of their stories in working with him.
Anne Curtis Smith-Heusaff, who played Princess Dahlia in “Magic Kingdom,” named her first daughter with husband Erwann Heusaff, Dahlia, shared her regret. “It breaks my heart knowing that he won’t get to meet my own little Dahlia,” Anne wrote.
However, she also gave her thanks to the late director for giving her “a role that would change my life forever.”
“I will miss you and will treasure the memories and lessons you taught me in the craft of acting,” she added.
Her sister-in-law, Solenn, shouted her love for Pepe, thanking him for “being the best teacher” she could ask for.
“I will forever be your fan in all aspects of your art and the great human being you are. RIP, I love you,” she wrote.
Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo extended her utmost gratitude for adding “more color and texture in my career.”
“My dearest Direk Peque… I will forever be grateful for the chance na nakatrabaho kita (of being able to work with you),” she said.
The actress remembered his craft, his wisdom, his honesty, professionalism, genuine love, and kindness.
“Your hugs and laughter, I will miss the most… Thank you for allowing me to know you personally,” Judy Ann continued.
Stars like Zsa Zsa Padilla and Denise Laurel thanked him too with their respective social media posts.
