MANILA\u2014The northbound exit of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Alabang toll plaza is temporarily closed to motorists after a transmission tower of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) collapsed Wednesday morning due to a fire incident in a nearby residential area.<\/p>\n

In an advisory, the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) apologized to motorists for the inconvenience caused by the fire incident near the Alabang northbound exit which caused heavy traffic along SLEX.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe continue to work to ease the traffic buildup caused by this incident and have deployed additional personnel and traffic enforcers on site,\u201d according to SMC.<\/p>\n

The company said it received reports of a fire incident which broke out at a residential area beside the toll plaza at around 8:50a.m. which damaged a nearby transmission tower causing it to collapse on one side. High-tension power cables fell on the Alabang viaduct main carriageway as a result of the incident.<\/p>\n

The northbound and southbound Alabang viaducts were closed at around 9:10a.m. due to the imminent danger to motorists and to ensure public safety. This caused heavy traffic with its tailend reaching up to Mamplasan exit. Both lanes were reopened by 9:52 a.m.<\/p>\n

The Muntinlupa Fire Department declared the incident Fire Out at around 10: 11a..m.<\/p>\n

SMC would continue on updating the public on the status of its clearing operations.<\/p>\n

The company operates the expressway through SMC Infrastructure, a subsidiary of San Miguel Holdings Corporation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
