{"id":9314,"date":"2014-05-08T11:29:11","date_gmt":"2014-05-08T03:29:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=9314"},"modified":"2014-05-08T11:29:11","modified_gmt":"2014-05-08T03:29:11","slug":"lino-brockas-maynila-wins-award-in-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2014\/05\/08\/lino-brockas-maynila-wins-award-in-london\/","title":{"rendered":"Lino Brocka\u2019s &#8220;Maynila&#8221; wins award in London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/maynila.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9320\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/maynila.jpg\" alt=\"maynila\" width=\"264\" height=\"399\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/maynila.jpg 264w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/maynila-198x300.jpg 198w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 264px) 100vw, 264px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Photo: Facebook Page of &#8220;Maynila: Sa Mga Kuko ng Liwanag\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The timeless classic film of Lino Brocka&#8217;s \u201cMaynila: Sa Mga Kuko ng Liwanag\u201d which was first released in 1975, was recognized as the \u201cBest Archive Restoration\/ Preservation Title\u201d at the 11th annual Federation of Commercial Audiovisual Libraries (FOCAL ) International Awards held April 30 in London.<\/p>\n<p>The Film Development Council of the Philippines and The Film Foundation \/ World Cinema Project of Martin Scorsese worked together for the said project.<\/p>\n<p>Cineteca di Blogna and L\u2019Immagine Ritrovata laboratory, restored the film in association with LVN, Cinema Artists Philippines and writer-director Mike De Leon.<\/p>\n<p>The nomination was sponsored by FIAF (International Federation of Film Archives).<\/p>\n<p>On behalf of the Film Foundation, World Cinema Project, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines, Scorsese thanked all those who have been part of the outstanding restoration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were thrilled when the opportunity came to restore Manila, one of Brocka\u2019s greatest films,\u201d Scorsese said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means a great deal to us to see our efforts acknowledged,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, FDCP Chairman Briccio Santos shared, \u201cFDCP is most honored by this latest recognition for a film of great heritage significance to Filipino.
