(Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ConcordiaUniversity\/photos\/a.10150635958641733.388838.6240296732\/10153382401381733\/?type=3&amp;theater\">Concordia University\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MONTREAL\u2014Three Concordia University buildings in downtown Montreal that were evacuated after the institution received bomb threats targeting Muslim students were re-opened Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Classes were disrupted earlier in the day for several hundred students as authorities searched the facilities for explosive devices.<\/p>\n<p>Police ended their sweep in the afternoon, but the buildings were kept closed until 6 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n<p>Montreal police spokesman Benoit Boisselle says no suspicious objects were found on the premises.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter sent to several media outlets and consulted by The Canadian Press, a group threatened to detonate \u201csmall artisanal explosive devices\u201d once a day until Friday in order to injure Muslim students.<\/p>\n<p>The group, which described itself as a chapter of the Council of Conservative Citizens of Canada, or C4, complained about Muslim prayer services on campus and demanded the school stop \u201creligious activities of all kinds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Premier Philippe Couillard described the letter&#8217;s content as \u201creprehensible\u201d and said his government was monitoring the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy first concern is the safety of the young people, the students,\u201d he told reporters northeast of Quebec City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere doesn&#8217;t seem to be a worry at the moment but we are following this very, very closely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police said the threats appeared in emails targeting one specific group, while Concordia president Alan Shepard held a news conference to say he has been in touch with Muslim student leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the Muslim student association, we have a good relationship,\u201d he said. \u201cThey have good leadership and we&#8217;re in close contact with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shepard said he had no knowledge of reports that a letter warning of bomb threats was circulating Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>He denied it took too long to empty the buildings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are large complex buildings and we want to evacuate everyone safely,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd we did it as soon as we safely could.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MONTREAL\u2014Three Concordia University buildings in downtown Montreal that were evacuated after the institution received bomb threats targeting Muslim students were &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":92076,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1482,18,16],"tags":[16042,11142],"class_list":["post-92074","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-breaking","category-news-ca","category-news","tag-bomb-threat","tag-concordia-university","mauthors-the-canadian-press"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/92074","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=92074"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/92074\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/92076"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=92074"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=92074"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=92074"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
