MANILA\u2014Private sector employees are entitled to receive an additional 30 percent of their daily wage rate if they report for work on Saturday (Feb. 25), a special non-working holiday as the nation commemorates the 31st anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III reminded employers to observe the applicable pay rules for the day.<\/p>\n

According to the labor department, for work done during the special day, workers shall be paid an additional 30 percent of their daily rate on the first eight hours of work. The \u201cDaily rate x 130% plus COLA\u201d scheme will be observed.<\/p>\n

If the employee did not work, the \u201cno work, no pay\u201d principle shall apply, unless there is a favorable company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment on special day.<\/p>\n

The department further said that for work done in excess of eight hours (overtime work), the workers will be paid an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate. The computation will be: hourly rate of the basic daily wage x 130% x 130% x number of hours worked.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, for work done during a special day that also falls on the workers\u2019 rest day, they shall be paid an additional 50 percent of their daily rate on the first eight hours of work, thus, the \u201cDaily rate x 150% + COLA\u201d computation will apply.<\/p>\n

For work done in excess of eight hours (overtime work) during a special day that also falls on the workers\u2019 rest day, they shall be paid an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate on that day, or a computation of \u201chourly rate of the basic daily wage x 150% x 130% x number of hours worked\u201d.<\/p>\n

President Rodrigo Duterte on Aug. 16 last year issued Proclamation No. 50 declaring Feb. 25, 2017 as a Special Non-Working Holiday throughout the country to celebrate the bloodless revolution.<\/p>\n
