Hip-hop superstar Drake wants to set the record straight on remarks he made to a woman wearing a scarf, prompting a furor on social media.<\/p>\n

Drake posted a message on his Instagram account Friday saying he wasn’t showing disrespect to Muslims when he joked with a fan about taking off her winter scarf at his London concert Thursday night.<\/p>\n

Some gossip websites and social media users suggested the musician was trying to get the woman to remove her hijab and interpreted it as an insult to Muslims.<\/p>\n

The uproar was sparked after a clip of the arena concert was posted online by a fan in which both Drake and the woman in the audience are obscured from the camera’s view.<\/p>\n

Drake’s Instagram post called it a \u201cfake media story\u201d and added that any suggestion that he disrespected Muslims is \u201cdevastating\u201d to him.<\/p>\n

The Toronto rapper said his comment about taking off the scarf was nothing more than friendly banter, adding he is well aware of what a hijab is and would never demean anybody wearing one.<\/p>\n

Drake also noted in the post that he makes a point to end his performances on tones of unity and love and that he is proud that his closest friends and fans come from all different religions and races.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
