{"id":87663,"date":"2017-02-02T03:00:22","date_gmt":"2017-02-02T08:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=87663"},"modified":"2017-02-02T03:00:22","modified_gmt":"2017-02-02T08:00:22","slug":"php30-m-worth-of-smuggled-gadgets-seized-in-tondo-raid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2017\/02\/02\/php30-m-worth-of-smuggled-gadgets-seized-in-tondo-raid\/","title":{"rendered":"PHP30-M worth of smuggled gadgets seized in Tondo raid"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_87664\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-87664\" style=\"width: 544px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/iphone.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-87664\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/iphone.png\" alt=\"PHP30-M worth of smuggled gadgets seized in Tondo raid (Photo: Sean MacEntee\/Flickr)\" width=\"544\" height=\"408\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/iphone.png 544w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/iphone-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 544px) 100vw, 544px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-87664\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PHP30-M worth of smuggled gadgets seized in Tondo raid (Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/smemon\/8039833659\/\">Sean MacEntee\/Flickr<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA\u2014The Bureau of Customs on Tuesday seized branded communication and electronic gadgets including iPhone 7 units, with an estimated amount of PHP30 million in a raid in Tondo, Manila.<\/p>\n<p>According to Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) Director Neil Estrella, the search was conducted in a building in Lakandula Street, based on intelligence reports that an online shop identified as Kim Store sells imported high-end communication gadgets under suspicious importation schemes and processes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Through extensive probes, agents of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) were able to locate its depot in Tondo, Manila,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Estrella cited the seized items as iPhone 7 units, Macbook laptops, Samsung Galaxy S7 series, Nexus 6Ps, Zenfone 3 Ultra, Sony Xperia (pixel XL 32 GB), Canon Cameras, tablets and music players, audio accessories, gadgets for safety and security, etc.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, Intelligence Officer Joel Pinawin, team leader of the CIIS operating unit said based on initial report that Kim Store is owned by a certain \u2018Francis\u2019, a Filipino-Chinese businessman in Binondo, currently engaged in online shopping business selling alleged smuggled items.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are still validating some intelligence reports and we will fully identify the real owners of Kim Store in the next few days,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The raiding team were armed with Letter of Authority, Warrant of Seizure and Detention, and Mission Order issued by Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the owner of the online shop has 15 days to present necessary documents or the seized items will be forfeited in favor of the government.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Kailangan nilang magsubmit pertinent papers and should also prove if they were authorized to import the branded items,&#8221;
