He was 91.<\/p>\n<p>His son-in-law, Mike Condon, says the actor died Thursday afternoon at a Los Angeles hospital from recently-diagnosed leukemia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMannix\u201d debuted on CBS in 1967 and ran for eight years.<\/p>\n<p>Viewers were intrigued by the smartly dressed, well-spoken Los Angeles detective who could still mix it up with thugs. Episodes normally climaxed with a brawl.<\/p>\n<p>Connors once said that until \u201cMannix,\u201d TV private investigators were hard-nosed and cynical, while Mannix \u201cgot emotionally involved\u201d in his cases.<\/p>\n<p>Connors also starred in the short-lived TV shows \u201cTightrope\u201d and \u201cToday&#8217;s FBI.\u201d His movie roles included \u201cSudden Fear\u201d with Joan Crawford, \u201cIsland in the Sky,&#8221; &#8221;The Ten Commandments,\u201d and a remake of &#8221;Stagecoach.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LOS ANGELES\u2014Mike Connors, who played a hard-hitting private eye on the long-running TV series \u201cMannix, has died.
