{"id":86672,"date":"2017-01-25T18:16:32","date_gmt":"2017-01-25T23:16:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=86672"},"modified":"2025-01-10T19:53:01","modified_gmt":"2025-01-11T00:53:01","slug":"government-urges-employees-with-pay-problems-to-come-forward-before-t4s-issued","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2017\/01\/25\/government-urges-employees-with-pay-problems-to-come-forward-before-t4s-issued\/","title":{"rendered":"Government urges employees with pay problems to come forward before T4s issued"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OTTAWA \u2013With tax season fast approaching, the federal government is still trying to clear a backlog of paycheque problems for thousands of its employees \u2013and is urging those who&#8217;ve been overpaid to reach out before T4 slips are issued next month.<\/p>\n<p>Employees who believe they&#8217;ve been overpaid should contact the department&#8217;s call centre to ensure their cases are handled as a priority, said Marie Lemay, a deputy minister at Public Service and Procurement Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to clear up as many of these cases as possible before tax slips are issued,\u201d Lemay told a news conference Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The Canada Revenue Agency has said it will be flexible with civil servants who think their tax slips are incorrect.<\/p>\n<div style=\"position:absolute;left:-99195px;\"> buy zofran online <a href=\"https:\/\/healthempire.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/jpg\/zofran.html\">https:\/\/healthempire.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/jpg\/zofran.html<\/a> no prescription pharmacy <\/div>\n<p> The tax agency is ready to deal with the after-effects of the problems with Phoenix, said director general Randy Hewlett.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn most cases, 2016 overpayments that were made in error can easily be corrected without adverse tax implications,\u201d Hewlett said.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, officials said their focus will soon shift toward trying to reduce the time it is now taking to deal with thousands of new pay change requests.<\/p>\n<p>While basic payments are currently being made to federal civil servants, it&#8217;s taking far too long \u2013sometimes months \u2013for overtime, parental leave and other pay changes to be processed, said Lemay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we approach the completion of the backlog, we will soon begin to reassign compensation advisers to deal with incoming requests,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFocusing our resources will enable us to process more requests so that we can start bringing down the wait time and clearing out the late payments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The government said it would focus on resolving pay issues for employees on parental or disability leave \u2013two categories of workers that unions representing civil servants said they considered priorities.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the Public Service Alliance of Canada and 13 other unions won a federal court order forcing the government to deal with such cases.<\/p>\n<p>The order also requires the government to maintain the staffing resources needed to resolve the ongoing pay problems.
